Before your breast reconstruction surgery:
During your consultation, Dr. Groves will discuss with you your surgical options. He will discuss implant based reconstruction as well as autologous (your own tissue) reconstruction. He will discuss the type reconstruction most appropriate for you, and the pros and cons to each choice. With your input, an appropriate surgical plan will be formulated that is unique to your individual circumstances.
The surgery:
Breast Reconstruction surgery is performed in an ambulatory surgical center or hospital under general anesthesia. It is performed either simultaneously with your mastectomy or in a delayed fashion after you have healed from your mastectomy.
Your recovery:
Post Breast Reconstruction discomfort is managed with oral pain medication and close follow up performed by Dr. Groves. Depending on your type of reconstruction, recovery is variable. This will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.
